Day 13 - Field of Dreams

The Field of Dreams... If I could think of one word to describe it - Inspirational.  It was just an incredible feeling.... getting out of the car, looking at the house, barns, baseball field, etc.  Am I really here?  At the original - and still pristine condition - Field of Dreams?  What amazed me from the start was its location - absolutely in the middle of NO WHERE, Iowa.  It is actually located in Dyersville, IA - off of a seldom used highway about 10 miles.  Those 10 miles really put the Field of Dreams in perspective.  10 miles of back roads.  Sand, gravel, dust, corn and a few houses and barns along the way.  Below are some pics of my journey to get to the field.

I was turning down these roads, kickin up some dust.  Actually a lot of dust.  I was anxious as hell to get there!  Where the hell is this place???  I turned down Lansing and thought I was almost there - well 10 minutes later I was!!  Finally!!!

(The entire compound - You can see the baseball field on the left.  See the lights?)

I actually took the above picture when I was leaving.  There was NO WAY I was going to stop for pictures once I saw that sign.  I headed down the driveway, jumped out of the truck and soaked everything in before starting to take pictures.  Here are some of those pics.

(huh?  She came from Japan to see it, but she lives in Seattle?  Wouldn't that mean she came from Seattle to see it?  I give up.)

(House, barns)

(House - couldn't go inside!  :(  )

(Barns)

(From 3rd base side)

(Wide-angle view from behind home plate)

(Wide-angle view of field from 1st base side)

(THE HOT CORNER!!)

(From 1st base)

(Field, house view)

(View of what harvested corn fields look like.  Shoeless Joe would be pissed about this.  Where would he hide?)

(This is where Shoeless Joe Jackson always entered the field!)

(View from left field).

This is one of those places you must visit to comprehend - especially for those who love the game and love what it means and what it stands for.  America's Past Time!!

Overall, I spent about 45 minutes walking around, snapping photos, and just absorbing the atmosphere and what this place means.  It was awesome to be there.  I rounded the bases (twice actually) and video taped it with  my camera on a tri-pod.  I'm posting to youtube in just a few minutes.  I'll post the link right after I post this.
